Whole-Body Photobiomodulation (PBM) treatments for patients with Fibromyalgia

Here is a brief summary of some key findings from the study titled “Changes in Circadian Variations in Blood Pressure, Pain Pressure Threshold and the Elasticity of Tissue after a Whole-Body Photobiomodulation Treatment in Patients with Fibromyalgia: A Tripled-Blinded Randomized Clinical Trial.” For those interested in more detailed information, we have provided a link to the full study.

  1. Pain Reduction: The study found that PBM significantly reduced pain levels in FM patients, as measured by the pain pressure threshold (PPT).
  2. Improved Tissue Elasticity: PBM was shown to increase tissue elasticity, as measured by strain elastography (SEL), suggesting improvements in the physical condition of affected tissues.
  3. Circadian Blood Pressure Regulation: Changes in circadian blood pressure patterns were observed after PBM treatment, which could have important implications for overall cardiovascular health.
  4. Enhanced Cardiometabolic Health: PBM may improve cardiometabolic profiles, including better insulin resistance and reduced endothelial dysfunction, common concerns in FM patients.
  5. Physiological Benefits: The study suggests PBM benefits the body’s systems by enhancing microcirculation, improving mitochondrial function, and increasing ATP synthesis. Additionally, PBM appears to boost creatine kinase, hexokinase, and antioxidant production while reducing reactive oxygen species.
  6. Central and Peripheral Stimulation: PBM affects not only peripheral tissues but also includes central stimulation, impacting brain health. This aspect of PBM is being explored for various neurological and psychological conditions.

While these findings are promising, further research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of whole-body PBM. To read the full study and gain a deeper understanding, click here.
